7/29/20 - Updated due to organization name changes: Family Promise of Essex County (formerly Interfaith Hospitality Network of Essex County) and Trenton based, The Father Center of New Jerrsey (formerly UIH Family Partners.
7/04/20 - Added Texas Energy Poverty Research Institute to the energy page.
6/21/20 - Michael Swayze's Community Resources Blog, online since 2008, has a new domain name.
6/15/20 - Link to Patrick Crispen's "Roadmap96", a free 27 lesson Internet training workshop, started in 1994, is gone. It served as an early guide to what was called the "Internet Superhighway.
12/02/19 - A few links have been updated, due to name changes to better reflect their mission. They include: United Way of Greater Newark, formerly United Way of Essex and West Hudson; nourish.NJ, formerly Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center of Morristown; and Family Promise of Southwest New Jersey, formerly Family Promise of Gloucester County.
10/19/19 - Found a very creative website, OPRAmachine, that makes filing OPRA requests much easier when trying to pry information from state and local government.
8/11/19 - Web addresses for Acoustic Cafe in Park Ridge and Toni's Kitchen in Montclair are updated. Broken links for Alabama LIHEAP and California LIHEAP are updated. Building Performance Association has been added to the US Energy Assistance page.
8/10/19 - Added Joseph's House of Camden, a homeless shelter that recently committed to expanding services to the community.
7/20/19 - A new url for The Center for People in Transition, a nonprofit centered at Rowan College South Jersey (name change) assists displaced homemakers (due to divorce, death of spouse, unemployment). Added, for soccer fans, a link to New York City FC.
6/30/19 - The link to the New Jersey office of the Drug Policy Alliance has been removed as the office has closed due to restructuring. The action also occurred for their offices in California, Colorado, New Mexico and New York. They did good work.
6/15/19 - Reconnections, a long-standing reentry program in Union County, added to the community resources page.
6/05/19 - Added are EmPoWER Somerset (see community resources page) and Representative Fred Keller, newly sworn in Congressman representing the 12th District in Pennsylvania (see area Congressional delegations page).
6/03/19 - Several links have been fixed. Hunterdon, Sussex and Warren residents seeking child care services should see the Child and Family Resource Services page of the NORWESCAP website. Also, Philly.com is now Inquirer.com. Let me know if there are any problems with the 2,187 other links on New Jersey Community Resources website.
4/10/19 - Like live music in small settings? Three venues: Cozy Cabin Concerts, Evergreen House Concerts and Lizzie Rose Music Room have been added to the Music, Art, Theatre section of the NJ Links page, for a total of 175 links.
3/17/19 - Added Distributing Dignity a nonprofit that exists to help women in transition by supplying new bras and feminine hygiene products. See the South Jersey section of the Community Resources page.
2/10/19 - Added Candid, created by the merger of the Foundation Center and GuideStar. See the US Nonprofits page.
2/03/19 - Bi-weekly check for broken links performed (not that it is ever noted).
1/19/19 The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) page has been updated for the 2018 tax season, including details on where to go for free tax preparation services (VITA sites) and free tax filing software (Free File).
1/01/19 - The state's Lifeline Utility Assistance program has increased the 2019 annual income limit to $27,951 for individuals and to $34,268 for married couples.
11/18/18 - Created an Area Congressional Delegations page covering the New Jersey and Pennsylvania delegations to the 116th Congress.
11/13/18 - Links to five community agencies helping consumers during ACA's Open Enrollment Period.
10/18/18 - The Energy Assistance Programs page has been updated to reflect new income guidelines for LIHEAP, USF and PAGE programs. The deadline for the LIHEAP program has been set at August 31, 2019.
10/08/18 - Two additions to New Jersey Organizations, the Federal Reserve Board of New York and the Federal Reserve Board of Philadelphia. Both are active in community development activities and research which benefits the entire region.
9/14/18 - New Jersey Anti-Hunger Coalition is now Hunger Free New Jersey. It is listed in the statewide nonprofits section of the community resources page here.
8/28/18 - The logo and url to the state's Housing Resource Center have been updated. It takes effort to review all twenty webpages and 2000+ links here but you will rarely find broken links!
7/22/18 - Please share the fact that the states's LIHEAP program has been extended to August 31, according to a DCA press release issued last Thursday. The extension applies to heating, cooling and emergency assistance.
6/03/18 - Guadalupe Family Services, a Camden nonprofit founded in 1995, added to the community resources page. GFS offers clinical counseling and direct social services, focusing on families in distress.
5/28/18 - Three new Assembly members were sworn in last week: Linda Carter (LD22), Lisa Swain (LD38) and Christopher Tully (LD38). See the New Jersey Legislature page for listings.
5/26/18 - The US Nonprofits page has been updated. The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) has been renamed Assistance Listings. See FAQ for details.
5/13/18 - A couple venues added to the Music and Theatre section of the NJ Links page. Over 170 links from Cape May to Sussex, house concerts to arenas.
3/28/18 - New 2018 Weatherization Assistance Program income guidelines posted to the energy assistance page.
3/17/18 - Added several county ResourceNets which can be found in the community resources page. There is a ResourceNet for each county so families can obtain needed health services for their children.
3/14/18 - Updated the biographical page. It reveals I'm a candidate for a party office, to become the Democratic Committeeperson in Philadelphia's Ward 22, Division 03.
2/24/18 - Re-added an old tutorial Patrick Crispen's Roadmap96, described as "a free, 27 lesson Internet training workshop designed to teach new "Net travellers" how to travel around the rapidly expanding (and often-times confusing) "Information Superhighway" without getting lost." Take a look to see what the Net was like in the 1990s in the tutorial section.
1/29/2018 - Income guidelines with New Jersey SHARES are effective February 1. Visit NJ Energy Assistance Programs page. The New Jersey Legislature page has also been updated due to the swearing in of Assemblywoman Britnee Timberlake (D-34).
1/28/2018 - The Earned Income Tax Credit page was updated which includes the new 2017 NJ EITC Fact Sheet published by the Department of Human Services.
1/23/2018 - Atlantic City Electric's Helping Hands energy assistance program is now listed in the NJ Energy Assistance Programs page as well as the Avoiding Utility Shutoffs in New Jersey page.
1/22/18 - The annual income for 2018 has been increased for the state's Lifeline Utility Assistance program for seniors and disabled to $27,189 for individuals and $33,334 for married couples.
1/19/2018 - Update to the list of new freshmen in the 218th New Jersey Legislature.
